Regarded as one of the greatest lead singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four- octave vocal range. Mercury defied the conventions of a rock frontman, with his highly theatrical style influencing the artistic direction of Queen. Born in in Zanzibar to Parsi-Indian parents, he attended English-style boarding schools in India from the age of eight and returned to Zanzibar after secondary school. In , his family fled the Zanzibar Revolution , moving to Middlesex , England. Having studied and written music for years, he formed Queen in with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. His charismatic stage performances often saw him interact with the audience, as displayed at the Live Aid concert. He also led a solo career and served as a producer and guest musician for other artists.

In life and in death, Freddie Mercury often remained an intriguingly inscrutable mystery. Yet the film has come under fire, and not only for the over-the-top jumbo prosthetic teeth that star Rami Malek wears to embody Mercury. It also, to many viewers, seems to conveniently rush through his undeniably queer sexuality, which was central to the illness that killed him. He would be 72 today. Mercury died due to AIDS-related complications, suffering from bronchial pneumonia while the disease had destroyed his immune system. Mercury had been aware of his HIV-positive diagnosis since , but those around him didn't necessarily have a clue.
He began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. No one could foresee where a love of music would take him. The Bulsara family moved to Middlesex in and from there Freddie joined up with a blues band called Wreckage while studying graphic design courses at Ealing College of Art. Smile metamorphosed into Queen when Freddie joined Roger and Brian as the lead vocalist. The final member of the band, which was to stay together for the next 20 years, was bassist John Deacon, who joined the band on 1st of March The rest is rock history. A song that was nearly never released due to its length and unusual style but which Freddie insisted would be played became the instantly recognisable hit. Queen was always indisputably run as a democratic organisation.
His booming, multi-octave voice, his stature and his theatrical, larger-than-life presence are all instantly recognizable. It is hard to fault the movie entirely for its inaccuracies, though. The Queen frontman liked a bit of mystery to his pop stardom; even other members of Queen weren't aware of his sexuality and his HIV diagnosis until much later in Mercury's life.
